Edward Hoyt Civil War Diary South Carolina December 25, 1864 Today is cloudy Christmas and Sunday all in one and a very dull time at that – but time is passing on and it is hoped something of interest will turn up before long. December 26, 1864 A cloudy and dull and damp – a very little of interest going on about here at present and I believe the dullest time I have seen since I have been in the service – nothing to do and nothing to do it with and rather scant rations and very irregular meals – sometimes dinner at two o,clock – rather tough but I suppose it is tougher where there is none. One year ago I reached my native town and my own blessed fireside and loved ones – we had hard showers last night and rained hard.
