Edward Lansdale was a former advertising executive who was in the forefront of counterinsurgency operations of the CIA in the Philippines, Vietnam, Cuba, and Nicaragua from the Post-War years to the 1970s. He was credited for helping propel Ramon Magsaysay to his landslide win in the Philippine Presidential elections of 1953 by building up his image as a man of the masses vis-a-vis President Elpidio Syquia Quirinos elitist golden orinola image. His chief operative in the Philippines was Col. Napoleon D. Valeriano, a former WWII veteran, member of Philippine Constabulary Academy, Class of l937. Col. Napoleon D. Valeriano was an expert in counterinsurgency operations and the second husband of the late Emma Benitez Araneta.
