Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has maintained that he will only deal with the local governments that are recognised by the 1999 Constitution. According to a press statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, and made available to journalists, Fayose said that he would comply fully with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999, on local government creation. Noting that there was a pending suit against the creation of the LCDAs by the former governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the governor said Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, clearly spelt out the authorities and procedures for the creation of local government. Pending the pronouncements of the courts, Fayose said his administration would be guided by the provision of Section 3 and Part 1, first schedule of the 1999 Constitution on the list of local governments in Nigeria in the allocation of resources to that tier of government. He assured Ekiti people that he would not do anything undermining the court and the constitution as far as the LCDA issue was concerned. He called on the people to continue to support his government.
