Election Day is little more than three weeks away. Several of you dont think theres any significant difference between elected Republicans and Democrats. I respectfully disagree. Theres not as much difference as Id like, but the two parties are hardly equivalent. Elected Republicans have moved radically to the right in recent years, reflecting the views of their corporate and billionaire patrons. Most Democrats are still fighting for working families -- seeking to raise the minimum wage, extend unemployment and Medicaid benefits to those who need them, preserve the Affordable Care Act, get equal pay for women, and raise taxes at the top to finance decent schools and opportunities for all kids. Its easy to be cynical about politics, but if we give up on politics we give up on democracy, and if we give up on democracy we cede the whole game to the moneyed interests that dont give a damn about anything except getting an even bigger share for themselves.
