Election season is approaching! How can we tell? Scott Angelle and Page Cortez are pretending to care about the interests of ordinary citizens. Angelle (now a Public Service Commissioner) was secretary of the Department of Natural Resources when his department sat for at least 18 months on information that there was a major problem with a Texas Brine storage cavern in the Napoleonville salt dome. He quite that job when the Baton Rouge Advocate discovered the coverup. He was also at DNR when the department failed to collect 99.8% of the severance tax collections on oil and gas for two years (2011 and 2012), according to the Legislative Auditor in a November 2013 report. Cortez (aka Senator Lay-Z-Boy after the furniture he sells) was not aware of either incident on Angelles watch, then voted to retroactively exempt the oil and gas industry from liability for damage to Louisianas coastal wetlands. Angelle is probably running for Governor while Cortez will wait for Bill Fenstermaker to tell him what hell be doing next year.
