Elena Tongakilo Ikiua I pay tribute to my friend Elena Tongakilo Ikiua who passed away in Auckland on July 27th, 2013. All my hugs, sympathies and condolences to her sons Patrick and Desmond as well as Mata Smith [her sister] whom I know, their families and their friends. Elena is one of those extraordinary people that one gets to meet in a lifetime, possessing a beautiful and wonderful nature that she would share willingly with anyone who needs it. For many years she and her husband ran study camps during the winter school holidays for our Niuean secondary students who were preparing for the School Certificate exams, and I believe continued to the current NZQA curriculum. I was one of her tutors and I got to know her well over the years in camps in Piha and in Howick and in that time developed an admiration and respect for Elena and her single-minded dedication that I am sure have benefited many who took part in her holiday camping programme. On behalf of those students I would like to think that your journey in your next adventure will find Paradise in God’s House. Thank you for your awesome commitment while you were with us ….I will miss you ...
