Elizabeth had been barren for years . She knew what it was to be the target of gossip and scorn. When she realized that a child was on the way , she was excited. God had answered her prayers . Now the contempt , the ridicule and wagging tongues would stop . THe Lord has done this for me,she said .In these days he has shown favor and taken away my disgrace among the people (Luke 1:25 ) However , it seemed that one womens blessing - an unexpected pregnancy - was going to be another womens downfall. Now it was Marys turn to be talked about . Elizabeth understood what that felt like , whether it was deserved or not .As an understanding confidante , she must have encouraged Mary to trust the Lord and believe He would take care of the situation. It took a lot of faith for both women in different circumstances to believe God was in control .No matter what we are facing just believe God is still and always will be in control.
