Elke is a rockstar... Since she has had training in the past and her owners keep up with a lot of practice (structured walks everyday), she falls into step quickly and easily because THIS is normal for her :) Making the good behaviors a habit practiced often make them your dogs default behavior. Although there will always be times where we need to maintain and practice, just like ourselves and any new skills we learn, it becomes so much easier the more you do it. Elkes first walk with her owner when I came (before training) was much more hectic. She tried to pull you to sniff things and was not focused or tuned in. The leash almost always had tension (even though sometimes she would walk next to you) and she even tried to chase cars that drove by and lunged at them. All the credit here goes to her owners for doing such a wonderful job with her! Shes a pretty special Shepherd! Walking your dog should be an enjoyable pleasure... NOT a battle :) !
