Elusive 8th Wimbledom title .... Wimbledom 2014 final was a heart break. Everybody was ready for great final, with celebreties like, Andre Shevchenko, Cesc Fabregas, Huge Jackman, David Backham, Bradley Cooper and others occupied seats well in advance. I had no doubt about older Federers ablity against younger guys, but it comes off well, more often only on grass courts. Unlike younger three, Murray, Djokovic and Nadal, Federer hardly has any flaws in his game but with age not on his side, he doesnt have fresh legs. Nadal is always a stronger athelete but he doesnt have class of federer, apart from he is not as sharp as Djokovic on baseline. If Djokovic is excellent at baseline, he is always found wanting on net, specially with volleys. Murray, with a bag of mixed performances, needs to do more to establish himself as top contender for every grand slam. His ranking does justify hardwork he needs to put in, or he may fade out quicky much like Australian star Hewitt. All in all, none of the younger guys, have established themselves at top of the perch, with Djovovic lossing last 3 grand slam finals, Nadal opting out because of injuries and Murray always felt wanting for enough fire to sustain himself. There was no doubt in anybodys minds, that Federer could win his 8 Wimbledom title, with more than 63% votes in favour of him. I always felt Nadal was a difficult challenge for Federer but the moment Nadal crashed out to Australian teenager Kyrgios, I felt, wimbledom draws have been specially drawn by God themselves to crown Roger. It was an easy semifinal for Federer, wining in 3 straight sets, but Djovokic was forced to save a set point in fourth set during his semifinal clash with Grigor Dimitrov and with wind not in his side, Djokovic found it very tough. This is one more attribute in Rogers game, that he plays well with the wind, apart from being aggressive to dictate terms to his opponents. Final started on a good note, with both players starting nervously, Fed Ex tring to stamp his agressiveness at net during the first few games of opening set. Djokovic kept his calm but he couldnt hold on it for any longer, with Federer easily winnig longer rallys with exceptional class, however, even Federer couldnt find break into Djokovics serve, taking first set to tie break. Fed Ex brought all his experience into play going 3-0 up into tiebreak, but Djokovic came back well to 4-5 in favour of Federer, before Federer closed in first set. It was big relief for Fed Ex fans like me, and everybody was hoping for more agression from Roger during second set. Wimbledom and nervy moments does it to everybody, and Federer was no exception. After winnnig tough first set, Fed Ex couldnt keep his composure, giving easy opening in the very first game of second set, losing his serve. Fed Ex tried hard to win back but Serbian didnt let him to break into his serve. Second set fell easily in the favour for Djokovic with six games to four. Third set was also a tie breaker but with momentum on Djokovics side, Federer fell short of his much wanted aces. During tie break, Federer could have put pressure on Serbian, but rather conceded unforced errors to put serbian at top with 2 sets to 1. Fourth set, was a challenge for Federer, with Djokovic found early break into Fed Exs serve, but Fed came back very well to break into Djokovic serve to level games, however, Djokovic found a further break into Federers server, before putting a halt to break of serves to go up with 5 games to 2. Federeer, having lost only one serve entire tournament, all of a sudden has lost 3 in first four sets. But none of Fed Ex fans gave up, surely I didnt and neither Fed Ex. Down with 5 games to 2, Federer made an exceptional comeback saving championship point, much to rejoice of his fans to win fourth set 7-5, demonstrating his ablity to find even younger guys on wrong foot, despite he is in corner. With fifth and final set, odds were is favour of Federer, and suddenly his aces, volleys started to make an impact. Entire match, I had no doubt, and I was always counting on Federer to lift his 8th trophy, but Djokovic had advantage with a first serve of set. Djokovic always kept up his ahead serves, putting more pressure on Federer. With four games all, Serbian found two break and championship points to be earned, thanks to pressure created by his ahead serves. But it wasnt Djokovics exceptional game which won him the title but it was Federers unforced error. Djokovic said at Trophy ceremony, Thanks Roger for letting me win this ..... Nobody could believe, neither could Djokovic, but Serbian kept up to his record of 5 set matches. Federer has a long way from forcing his way into All England Tennis championship next year, but with other top three, so dodgy, I guess, Fed Ex should make into top four of each Grandslam, with US open to follow, and Australian open next year. If he can win any of three grandslams to follow with French open later next year, he will surely have odds in his favour for next year at London. I wish, somebody could do something to help Federer improve strength & fitness at level of these new guys and become oldest man to win Wimbledon. And yeah, greedy Federer fans, will be hoping for Federer to eclipse, much standing US Open record with Jimmy Connors and Sampras of five titles each and Australian Open record with Andre Agassi and Novak Djokovic of four title each. However, there is story about fourth set, When Federer was down 5 games to 2, I was having left over onions after dinner at home, and all of sudden Federer staged a dramatic comeback. I made sure, I keep eating raw onions on every games serve of Federer and Djokovic, until fifth set nineth game. By the end of fifth set, I had consume as many as 5 onions, and my mouth was burning. The moment I gave up eating momentarily, Djokovic was on brink to earn two break points, and it happened so fast, I restared with my onions again, but by that time, may be lucky charm was lost.
