He has been working in Faafu Feali Atoll School in Maldives as a teacher of English (Work Permit ID 10062041) under the Ministry of Education. He was arrested on 5th of April 2014 on charges of child abuse. But in fact, it was a classroom issue blown up out of proportion. The complaint has been already withdrawn by the proposed victim and his parents but the Ministry and the Police Department are still pursuing the case by extending the Police detention for another fifteen days. Even though the Authority forwarded the complaint withdrawal report, together with the recommendation of his release, it has been understood that the state would pursue the case. Jayachandran is allowed to call his wife Jyothi twice in a month and the following details are shared: a) He is not given justice by the trial not being taken place accurately for the last 8 months b) The allegation is a concocted one as his relationship with the school authorities has been strained c) The geographical, cultural and political scenario of the country is hampering every move to establish his honesty and innocence d) He asked her to correspond with the Indian High Commission and Embassy office. Accordingly, his wife tried to contact the offices but no positive response has been yet received from them. Even though, we have sent complaints to Ministery of External Affairs, we didn’t get a satisfactory anwer. This case is a purposefully fabricated one. He was put behind the bars on April 5th 2014 but the termination letter was given him on April 13th 2014. Incompetency in teaching and methodology was the fault mentioned in it, it’s a clear evidence that the case is fabricated one. Also the school authorities never informed us about his arrest or imprisonment. Even the natives of Maldives are in favor of him. Now its heard that the trial has begun in this case. This is a truly a case of violation of human rights and justice. Jayachandran is the senior most in that school and has a rich academic record without a single iota of black mark in his personal and professional life. He has been in the teaching profession since the completion of his education and has run an educational institution for 10 years in the state of Kerala, India which accommodated more than 1000 students. He has been an active social worker and a man of letters. He is suffering from high blood pressure and taking medication. His kids and wife are going through an insecure traumatic condition ever since he was arrested. We were forbidden to inform even the news about his brother’s death or news regarding his mother being in comma state. Sariah law is prevalent there as its an Islamic country. So, we don’t have any idea regarding the punishment for child abuse. Only through the timely interference of authorities can we release from prison as well as the judgment of Sariah Court. So it is my humble request for your immediate action for his release.
