Tetra Tech currently has an opportunity for a Site Safety and Health Officer at our Virginia Beach, VA location. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Coordinate ESQ activities on large hazardous waste sites requiring an ESQ department. * Determine the level of protective equipment, uses and interpret monitoring instruments; analyze safety and health hazards, assess risk levels, develop and recommend control measures and decontamination procedures; investigate accidents, illnesses and injuries occurring on project sites; develop emergency procedures; ensure compliance with OSHA and related regulations. * May function as the ESS for a project, which would include the following responsibilities: * Assist with the implementation of the EHS plan and EMS and EHS programs. * Ensure that employees understand the requirements of the EHS program and procedures through training and communication. * Obtain approval of all EHS plans. * Perform specific tasks in accordance with the EHS plans. * Fulfill the specific responsibilities for project ESQ staff identified within each EHS procedure. * May approve H&SP and function as the Project H&S Manager if approved by the Regional ESQ Manager, the Project Environmental Safety Manager (PESM) and allowed by the contract. * Prepare or assist in the preparation of Environmental Health & Safety Plans including Environmental Protection Plans, Waste Management Plans, regulatory compliance plans, storm water management plans, storm water pollution prevention plans, spill prevention control and counter measure plans, contingency plans, emergency response plans and health & safety plans. * Prepare ESQ sections of proposals. * Conduct and develop ESQ training programs. * Provide ESQ services to clients. * Conduct ESQ related audits of projects and offices. * Order the shutdown of site activities upon determining the presence of an imminent health and safety hazard. Develop an extensive understanding of the limitations, advantages and costs of health and safety equipment, as well as new designs/equipment. * Participate in the development of business opportunities. * Keep current with developments in and interpretation of environmental, occupational health and quality standards and regulations. * Coordinate Quality activities on large sites requiring a Quality department; determine the appropriate level of quality for the project and assist in the coordination of quality aspects. * Prepare Quality plans, review and approve plans and procedures and function as a Project Quality Manager if contract or project specifications do not require certification. * Prepare Quality sections of proposals. * Develop and conduct Quality training programs. * Conduct Quality audits of projects and offices and participate as an auditor under the direction of a Lead Auditor. * Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * Bachelors degree from an accredited institution. * 2-5 years of applicable experience.
