Employer faces charges of torturing her two maids, killing one of them! A woman is accused of torturing her housemaids by locking them in a bathroom, making them drink bleach and beating them regularly. Prosecutors told Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday the employer also forced her two maids to strip naked then took photographs of them and threatened to publish the images. The alleged abuse only came to light when one of the housemaids died, the court was told. The 45-year-old Emirati defendant denies charges of torture leading to death and unlawful imprisonment. A medical report showed that the housemaid weighed only 37kg when she died. It also found chemicals used in pesticide in her system. The other maid, a 29-year-old Filipina, claimed the abuse began when she started work at her employer’s Al Rashidiya home last October. “They were only giving me one piece of bread, some water and a cup of tea for the whole day,” she said in records. “I couldn’t even make food for myself as my boss used to lock the kitchen. She hit me with a bar. Once she claimed that I didn’t clean the bathroom well so she forced me to drink a small cup of detergent and Dettol and kept beating me until I drank it.” She claims the second housemaid arrived a month later and the abuse carried on. “She gave us even less food and once told us to take off our clothes, took photos and threatened to send them to friends,” the maid added. A friend of the defendant also told Dubai Police that she once saw the woman throw one of the housemaids down the stairs. The friend also said that she saw the defendant beat both maids with bars. The surviving maid told the court that on one occasion her co-worker, Kega, was feeling hungry and started looking through the rubbish for food. When the employer caught her she beat her up and didn’t give her anything to eat for five days. “After that she only gave Kega onion, salt, sugar and water, but I started giving her some food. She was so skinny and was badly injured from the assault,” the maid said. Kega died a couple of days later and it is claimed that when the defendant called an ambulance she asked the surviving housemaid to wear a scarf to hide her bruises. The maid said that when paramedics suggested Kega had not died of natural causes, the police were called and she told them what had happened. The defendant’s 42-year-old Emirati husband, who is also on trial for criminal abetting, claimed during the investigation that his wife has psychological problems and confirmed the assault on the two housemaids. Both defendants pleaded not guilty and trial has been adjourned until later this month to prepare the defence. The female defendant will remain under custody. (7Days through Yahoo Maktoob)
