Encouraging news on the US job market pushed US stocks higher sending the market toward some big milestones. The Dow Jones industrial average rose back near 16,000 points and the Standard & Poors 500 index was just below 1,800 points. With an hour left to trade, the Down Jones average was up 103 points at 16,003 points. The S&P 500 index was up 14 points at 1,796 and the Nasdaq was up 47 points at 3,968 points. European shares remained steady after the Federal Reserve said it was considering tapering its stimulus in the coming months, while the mining sector was hit by poor global manufacturing data. The Australian share market is set to open higher as Wall Street rises on encouraging jobs data in the US. At 0701 AEDT on Friday, the December share price index futures contract was up 37 points at 5,338.
