Enjoyed the NYT article Morality Should Not Be Priced in the Marketplace. This is a blog that I published in April about God and Money. tribulation7/my-18th-blog-god-and-money-pt-1/ God and Money. Mt.6:24* “No one can serve two masters.m He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. * [6:24] Mammon: an Aramaic word meaning wealth or property. Lk.16-13No servant can serve two masters.* He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” * [16:13] The third conclusion is a general statement about the incompatibility of serving God and being a slave to riches. To be dependent upon wealth is opposed to the teachings of Jesus who counseled complete dependence on the Father as one of the characteristics of the Christian disciple (Lk 12:22–39). God and mammon: see note on Lk 16:9. Mammon is used here as if it were itself a god. Greed is idolatry and its goes back to what God warned us about in Ex.20:1-6 1Then God spoke all these words: 2 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 3You shall not have other gods beside me. 4You shall not make for yourself an idol or a likeness of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth; 5you shall not bow down before them or serve them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishment for their ancestors’ wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation; 6but showing love down to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
