Enoch - Walked With God Scripture reading: Genesis 5: 18-24 We are studying the Champions of Faith. Last week we discussed Abel. Today we are going to look at Enoch. Hebrews 4: 5-6, 1Chronicles 1: 1-3 Enoch was the 7th generation from Adam and the Great Grandfather of Noah. One must remember that in that time men live for hundreds of years so Adam was alive (700 years old) when Enoch was born. Enoch had one of the shorter life spans at 365 years but he was still alive when Noah was born. Some may doubt the authenticity of the book of Genesis because it was written by Moses years after the events occurred but the oral tradition was passed down and with the extended life spans people were able to hear first hand accounts. Enoch pleased God and was one of only two men to be taken to heaven without dying --Elijah was the other. So how do we please God? Mark 12:33, Psalm 19:14, Proverbs 16:7, John 5:30 Please God with the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart. Seek to do Gods will not our own. When we help others. Trust that God is God. Without faith no one can please God. Within all of us is a seed of God that knows when we are doing wrong. Hebrews 13:6, 11:6 Romans 8:5, 8:8, 12:1 I John 3:22 CHILDRENS SERMON How do we please God? Hebrews 11:1 defines faith. To believe in things not seen. Faith is Fearless, Action of belief, Its a heart thing, Trusting, Heroic Enoch never saw death because he pleased God. What pleases God? (Be nice, praying, sharing, faith, trust) The 10 commandments are rules that show us how to please God. DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT- Steve Peterson What is worship? Often we take it for granted. Malachi 3:3 talks about God acting as a refiner. Henry Blackabee wrote that the quality of worship is not about the activities but the character of the person. True quality of worship rests within us.
