Entertainment-wise, we had a dynamite weekend. Saturday night was Dakota Blonde at Acoustic Alley, fronted by the effervescent Mary Huckins. As you can probably tell from the pic, we were in the front row, close enough that I had to ask Mary to please refrain from spewing on us if she were to start laughing in mid-drink of water. If you get a chance to attend one of their shows, go for it. They do a terrific mix of originals and great arrangements of covers. Also pictured is Ernie Martinez, the most unassuming-looking Guitar God on the planet. Ernie simply tears it up on too many instruments to mention (hint: at the Rocky Mountain Stocking Stuffers show (a Christmas tradition for many of us), Ernie is challenged to play every instrument on the stage, including acoustic and electric guitar, dobro, fiddle, bass, banjo, mandolin, etc. etc. Needless to say, he pulls it off in spectacular fashion. He and Mary are among the local all-stars who make up the Stuffers, who are fronted by Tim Irvin, formerly of of Timothy P and the Rural Route Three. We already have our Stuffers tix, and well be joining the Mudhens for the show. Sunday night it was off to the Buell Theater for Kinky Boots. What a terrific show! And no surprise that Cindy Lauper did the music. One of the best shows weve seen in years. A hoot, as they say. And with a great message......
