Eph. 4:14-15 - Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. One of the issues that we experienced in our marriage and have seen in many couples that we sit down with, is the hesitance to speak or even see ourselves and our circumstances honestly. I think that fear is the root of the problem. Some might say that I dont know how to express myself, or my spouse may not feel the same as me. The truth is, it is important that we are honest in our communication. Dishonesty is a barrier that actually separates you from the people that you love. When we are not honest about our actions, feelings, thoughts we prevent our spouses from showing the love and acceptance that we most crave from them. It is impossible to feel loved when you have hidden secrets that you feel make you unlovable. John and I are certain that God uncovered the secret places within us so that they could be dealt with and put under our feet. God has great purpose for us and there is no room for unhealthiness! We encourage you to find your voice--speak first to yourself--be honest and begin to see your areas of weakness, and allow God to make the broken places within you brand new again! Once you have done that, speak life and health into your marriage. Dishonesty is a foundation made of sand--it will cause everything that you have built up as a couple to crumble. Speak the truth in love--allow your spouse the opportunity to hear your reality and walk through your journey with you. Build your marital house on a solid foundation so that it can stand!
