Episode 9-Why We Fight This episode made a pretty good attempt to depict the bittersweet mood of near victory in southern Germany in the spring of 1945. It is a study in contrasts. A noble attempt to recreate the atmosphere, sights and sounds of the labor camp near Landsberg was made but no film could ever do justice to what those who saw it firsthand experienced. The scale of these abominations is impossible to recreate and most of all, the smell. There was little hugging done between victims and their liberators, not only because of the smell, but because those wretched walking skeletons were teeming with Typhus and vermin. Its disturbing to think that our last living eyewitnesses to these crimes against humanity will not be with us much longer. It is they who can refute with authoritative testimony, the Holocaust deniers who are coming out of the woodwork. From: 101airborneww2/bandofbrothers7.html
