Equal Rights Trust (ERT) Seeks Development Officer Location: London Closing Date: 27 September 2013 The Equal Rights Trust (ERT) is an independent international organisation, whose purpose is to combat discrimination and promote equality as a fundamental human right and a basic principle of social justice. ERT currently runs projects in 20+ countries around the world. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Officer will work on all aspects of fundraising and donor relations for a dynamic international organisation at the forefront of equality and human rights advocacy. Through a combination of strategic thinking, imagination, initiative and hard work, the post-holder will ensure ERT’s sustainable development, maintaining and expanding a stable, diverse and well-balanced range of funding sources and networks. The position is based in London. Key responsibilities Implement the Trust’s fundraising strategy; Research and identify new funding opportunities, including trusts and foundations, governmental agencies, corporate donors and individuals, and match ERT interests with their funding agendas; Draft letters of inquiry to potential funders, concept notes and full proposals, with input from other ERT staff; Identify and manage appropriate approaches to funders, including through organising meetings; Coordinate the Trust’s participation in calls for proposals from international organisations, bilateral donors and private foundations; Coordinate the submitting of applications, in compliance with funders’ rules and deadlines; Coordinate grant reporting according to grant requirements and within agreed deadlines; Manage an existing donor contact database; Maintain the Trust’s Fundraising Grid. Required qualifications Experience in fundraising for charities or programmes comparable to ERT. Skills in writing grant applications to trusts and foundations, governmental agencies, corporate donors and individuals. Knowledge of the fields of equality and human rights and understanding on how they relate to other fields. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Desirable qualifications Familiarity with funding opportunities and procedures in the area of equality, human rights, social justice and development. Proven record of success in fundraising for charities. Fluency in languages other than English, with a preference of Spanish or French. Financial skills, including budgeting and reporting. Salary and benefits £22,000-33,000 p.a. depending on experience and qualifications, and employer-paid benefits.
