Erasmus was a gentle scholar who drew the ire of both church - TopicsExpress

Erasmus was a gentle scholar who drew the ire of both church conventionalists and some of the more fire-breathing Reformers, because he was neither. He was a brilliant, careful, compassionate and honest scholar whose writings helped open quite a few minds... and compiled the best Hebrew and Greek manuscripts (including the "underground" texts) into the Textus Receptus that formed the base of the alternative popular-language Bibles that began to appear in Europe at the time. And what he says here rings true even now. I think I would have liked him.
