Erika Heineken - Edge 2014 review flyozone/kitesurf/en/news/headlines/23428 flyozone/kitesurf/en/products/kites/edge/info I was stoked to get my 2014 Edges just in time for the Foil Nationals last weekend! Over the past week I’ve been on the 5m, 7m, and 10m in all sorts of conditions on my Sword foil. I haven’t had the change to try them with a raceboard yet. Here’s a brief review and a few shots. I’ve been dreaming of riding a 5m Edge for years now, so with 30 kts and a crazy ebb tide my dream came true. That kite will take some getting used to because it’s SO damn quick! My second day on it felt much better than the first. I found it had light bar pressure that made it very easy to fly upwind. I really wanted to ride the 5, though downwind was an underpowered balancing act on the foil in crazy chop. It’s hard to comment on the downwind performance when I was exploding as much as I did. I probably should have been on the 6m, but Johnny had borrowed it for the event. He was making major gains on the competition downwind and thinks the new kites (he rode both the 6 and 8) create more consistent power throughout the kite strokes. The 7m feels quite similar to last year’s model, which is ideal because that kite was has always been my go-to! It’s got incredible range. It’s easily controllable in large gusts and still got me to shore in very light conditions. It feels like the kite performed better while underpowered than the previous model. When I had to do multiple kite loops to keep it in the sky, it had less of a tendency to stall on the upstroke. Maybe that has to do with the lighter weight of the kite... I think the 10m is ultimate kite to fill the gap between the small Edges and the Chronos for raceboard events. It feels very stable both upwind and downwind but still can turn like last year’s magical 10m. I’m looking forward to taking another spin on it while I’m not totally lit and trying to take some selfies with the GoPro. Thanks team Ozone! Cheers to 2014!
