Eternal Security ::: “What exactly do we mean by ‘eternal security ’?” Eternal security” = once we have trusted the blood of Christ as our one -‐ and -‐only payment for sin . . . • God immediately grants us salvation • And we can never lose our salvation • Regardless of what we do-‐ don’t do from that point on Our salvation is not based on our performance (which changes moment -‐ by -‐ moment) but on what Jesus did for us on the cross (which never changes). “I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me, has eternal life . . .” John 5:24a “Eternal life” is something every true follower of Christ has right now here on earth. Heaven is merely the place where people who already have “eternal life” go when they leave this world. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life . . .” John 3:36 “I tell you the truth, the person who believes in Me has eternal life.” John 6:47 Issue = “Can a person have eternal life and then lose it?” “Therefore, there is now no condemnation (exposure to God’s judgment for our sin) for those who are in Jesus Christ.” Romans “I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has eternal life and that person (who has eternal life because they believed in Me) will not be condemned but, rather, has crossed over (lit: changed place of residency; moved) from death to eternal life.” “And this is the covenant I will make with them . . .” Hebrews 10:16 “Covenant” = “a legal agreement; contract” Term #1 –“‘ And this is the contract I will make with them,’ says the Lord . . .‘their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.’ ” Hebrews 10: 16 a, 17 Term #2 – God inscribes our names in the “Lamb’s Book of Life.” (Philippians 4:3; Revelation 21:27) Term #3 – “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ.” Romans 8:1 Term #4 – God buries our sins “in the depths of the sea.” (Micah 7:19) Term #5 – “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? . . . ” 1 Corinthians 6:19 Term #6 – We are now God’s children, because “ God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts.” (Galatians 4:6) Term #7 – “Who shall separate us from the love of God? . . . for neither death nor life, nor angels nor demons, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 8:35, 38, 39 Term #8 –“. . . having believed (in Jesus Christ), you were marked (lit.: Greek,‘branded’) with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, which guarantees our inheritance . . .” Ephesians 1:13 Terms #9 –“I give My sheep eternal life and they shall never perish . . . When we know our salvation is “eternally secure” . . . #1 – We are not afraid to die ::: To be absent from our body is to be present with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:8 #2 – We have true hope in every situation of life. Bottom Line : When we give our lives to Christ, we are irreversibly / irrevocably / irretrievably saved for all of time and eternity !
