Ethiopias Pulitzer Prize - May 30, 1991 --- On this date on May 30 1991, Pultizer prize photographer Anthony Saua captures what becomes one of the most iconic images of the collapse of the Derg government and the ensuing events that followed. Suau cites A demonstrator opposing the new government was shot and left in the street for public display. He is guarded by a member for the new military rebels. Demonstrations were reported throughout Addis Ababa the day prior. The US Embassy said on May 29 its embassy was vadalized by demonstrators accusing the USA of helping the rebels. The Associated Press reported that ten University of Addis Ababa professors calling themselves the Committee for Peace and Reconciliation in Ethiopia accused the United States of orchestrating a backdoor deal to permit anti-government forces into Addis Ababa.
