Eve Ensler, a remarkable woman, crusading world wide against the violence inflicted on women. This video features "The City of Joy", in the Democratic Republic of Congo", a rehabilitating refuge for some of the tens of thousands of women who have been brutally raped in decades long civil wars. Pres. Obama will be visiting Africa shortly. Some years ago I wrote an email letter to Mrs. Obama suggesting that she visit the DRC to help focus world attention on the plight of its victimized women. I now recommend again, that in conjunction with her husbands trip to Africa, she make her own visit to this "City of Joy". And I say again--the U.S. owes a shameful moral debt to the people of the DRC for our nations past role in events (primarily through blind, cold war support of its past, corrupt dictators) that helped to bring their nation to its current, and long standing, "failed state" status. We need to acknowledge that debt, and work to make amends in every way possible, symbolic and substantive.
