Eventful Visit to Dr Njenga Foundation Orphanage at Kamuchege - TopicsExpress

Eventful Visit to Dr Njenga Foundation Orphanage at Kamuchege Village, Kiambu District, Kenya: September 25th to October 10 2013: The journey was not only interesting but very eventful. Myself and my wife Jennifer Kube were all in good spirit and excited to board KLM at Vancouver accompanied by 8 luggage full of donated books and computers laptops and kids clothes. Arriving in Nairobi on 26th was exiting after considering the sympathetic terrorist attack at West end mall that same week...that did not scare us at all. After sleeping overnight, 27th was the day to visit the orphanage on a surprise basis- planned to discover the real time operational management. As expected, kids were very welcoming and each of the 20 kids received neatly arranged package of clothes and stationery. It was a reunion to remember. We also inspected the manual bore hole/water well digging which was about 107 feet deep below the surface. We however discovered that a lot of work waited for us that included repainting and general cleaning, and reconstruction of chicken coup to uplift the institutional standards. That was effectively done the following week. But top in our agenda was to create rapport and trust with kids and workers. Hence at our cost, 29th was the day that we took kids to an educational trip to Nairobi that included visiting Nairobi Animal Orphanage, Nairobi Museum, and an amusement park called Rib Shark. Since some of these kids never went out of their village, their observational excitement and difficult questions were surely educational. Then there came the strange event when Jennifer got a stomach bug and she was hospitalized in Nairobi Hospital- a very good and efficient hospital. After Jennifers recovery, we continued with our work that also included buying and delivering text books to Kamuchege Primary school where the kids go to school. The school was very happy to receive these books and we gave them at least 3 computers. I really thank all our supporters for believing that together, we can cause social change to happen, for I know the 20 orphans are no longer desperate as they were one year ago, but now they have a bright sustainable future if they continue with education. We also thank Kenyan Government for all assistance they gave us especially when we visited kids in Nairobi slums....kids who need a lot of help. Visit drnjengafoundation.org
