Ever notice that, when it come to traffic, our police, bless their protective hearts, are more focused on gaining revenue than on issues of safety. And the cops have seemingly given up the idea of warning tickets. Ive driven all my life (except for a very minor fender bender in driving rain when I was 15 or 16) without an accident. Yet since 2006 Ive received four traffic tickets, all when I was driving perfectly safely (once when turning into a parking space at less than 5 miles per hour!). The last was five days ago in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Coming into town as darkness fell, I was obviously more concerned about finding my destination and avoiding other vehicles than on every speed limit sign. Well, they got me on a deliberately designed speed trap as I accelerated downhill from a railroad viaduct on a wide-open stretch of highway going out of town towards the local air base. The ridiculous, 35-mph limit was increased ONLY a few feet from the bottom of the slope. So, BEWARE of predatory, nit-picking enforcement, especially when in unfamiliar territory!!
