Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, a certain lady in her late - TopicsExpress

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, a certain lady in her late 50’s comes to our office park to clean the premises. She calls me “sweetie-pie” and always knows that as soon as I see her I will give her a big hug. Yesterday when I arrived at work I asked my colleagues where she was. The secretary told me that she was cleaning downstairs but seemed to be very tired. When I saw the lady and tried to hug her, she retracted. I asked her if she was okay and she gave me the usual response; “I am fine and you?” I looked at her and saw that she was definitely not fine. She seemed to be in a lot of pain. The more I asked her what was wrong, the more annoyed she became, but I remained persistent. When she realised that I was not going to leave her alone because I was genuinely concerned about her, she broke down and cried. She told me that she was viciously attacked by thugs over the weekend. She was kicked, beaten and stripped naked by stupid thugs who stole her phone and robbed her of the little money she had. Some people walked past her while she was being attacked and others just watched. No one tried to help her. No one called the police. When a good Samaritan saw her wounded and coughing blood on the side of the road, she took the lady to the emergency ward. Her injuries were so bad that she had to spend two nights in the hospital. She told me that she was not worried about herself; but was worried about the safety of her children and two grandchildren who all live with her in a shack. She then showed me some of her wounds and bruises and said; “Sweetie-pie, I thought I was going to die but thanks be to Jesus I am not dead.” Many times we become so busy with our own personal lives and problems, that we do not even notice the people around us who are hurting and suffering. Some people don’t even bother to greet others or ask if they are okay. Friends, the world does not revolve around you! There are many people who are going through immense challenges and pain that neither you nor I could ever imagine. Learn to care about the well-being of others; regardless if they are the cleaner, security guard, your miserable colleague or your annoying relative. Never allow the hurt and disappointments that you have experienced in the past to cause you to harden your heart towards people. Be kind! We need to always have a loving heart of compassion and kindness towards people no matter who they are.
