Everybody... I have a very exciting announcement!! I have adopted a new member of the family, and.... ITS A BOY!!! His name is Shorty. He is 51 years old and has been VERY well loved. He was played by a sailor named George (whose nickname was Shorty) for ten years and when he passed on he left this accordion to his son, who has had it for 40 years since then, and his other accordion to his daughter. His son saw me on my bicycle riding down 4th street with my accordion on my back recently and immediately told his friends Look at that girl riding a bike with an accordion! I am going to find her and give her Dads old accordion!! Apparently not a day has gone by since that he hasnt talked about giving it to me. He met me a few days later on the street and told me that he wanted to give me his dads accordion! He had never even heard me play. I came to his house last night and he gave it to me, I played for him, his girlfriends best friend cooked me dinner, and his sister listened to me play over the phone and invited me to their Thanksgiving dinner! Now I can go meet their family and play their Grandpas accordion to them. It means a lot to them that it is being played again. I am so excited!! This accordion has some reeds that are quite out of tune, which is perfect because Ive been wanting to learn to tune accordion reeds! Boom. Everything is in playable order though, and it is a really nice instrument. Just needs some love because its so old. Also, he had really great straps that are perfect for Matilda. So I switched their straps around. He is lighter weight and smaller than her so her smaller and worn straps are fine for him for now. Now I have been on a kick of making repairs and improvements to both of my accordions. I cant wait to get some tools and start tuning reeds!
