***Everyone..... Please take one minute to read about one of our very special residents. *** Please meet Lucy. She is not available for adoption. You see, she already belongs to someone. Her someone is a soldier, and she is waiting for her Dad to come home. Last year, a young man came to us with a huge request. He was an Army man, and the sole owner of young black lab mix named Lucy. He was being shipped off to Afghanistan that very month, and desperately needed a place for his pup to call home. He had begged his family and friends, but no one else could take her. Though we were full to the gills at the shelter (as we are now), we felt a duty to say yes. All too often, our military heroes are forced to trade in their dogs for dog-tags, an outcome that should never happen. Companion animals are important to every family, but they can be a special emotional anchor for those making the transition out-of or into civilian life. We often take to social media to communicate our need for adoptive and foster families, and Lucy is a great example why. You see, one of the reasons we are constantly trying to get our numbers down is to enable us to perform services like this more often -- serving our community while helping to save local animals. Unfortunately, this is very much an uphill battle, and right now we only have one pen to spare for this service. This is where YOU come in -- with the help of all of our supporters, we hope to open as many as 10 pens that we can hold in reserve for the four-legged friends of our servicemen and women. We intend to house, feed, and care for these animals, free of charge, while their owners are deployed. We believe this is an important measure that leverages ARFs expertise while supporting local families and pets. The only issue is opening up those 10 pens... so please continue to share the stories of our adoptable pets! If you or anyone you know might be interested in adopting or fostering one (or more) or our ARF residents, it would expedite our ability to begin this important mission. The sooner we can open more space, the sooner we can help servicemen and women in need! In the meantime, please do think about coming to visit Lucy. While she waits for her dad to return home, we ask that people come by the shelter to walk her, toss her favorite tennis ball, and give her some of the love that she has grown used to. She could really use the companionship, and its a great way to help a soldier who is facing far greater troubles in a distant place. We would LOVE to find her a foster. Keep her in a home. So....please, foster if you can, and if you cant, please share her story by clicking the share button below this post. #fosterme #tbt #soldiersdog #pleasecomehome #waitingfordad #lucy #Army #armydog #Wednesday #ellen #military #salute
