Everyone who got where he is had to begin where he was. --- Pope John Paul II Our Royston Farmers Market is going well...vendors with wonderful locally grown produce is available. This week farmers plan to have tomatoes, squash, green beans, cucumbers, peaches, corn among other items often jams and jellies. The market is Thursday mornings 7:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Railroad Street in front of the Historic Depot. Come and support our local market this season! Geat News...the Royston Historic Depot / City of Royston has been awarded a grant to begin restoration on our Historical Depot downtown. The grant award is $93,933 with a match of $40,257. This project has been a dream for several years and we are happy about this upcoming project. Phase III of our Street Scape Project remains on scheduled. This is a grant of $350,000 and will be the phase on Bowers Street to the Depot. We would like to say thank you to Bob Adamson and his staff of Bobs Small Town Grille for being part of Royston as a restaurant in the downtown area. Ashley Strickland will be in a Mid-Day Concert downtown Royston on Thursday, August 7, 2014, from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. We are very pleased to have Ashley perform for us in our summer music event. There is no cost to attend. Just bring your lawn chair and come and enjoy the performance by Ashley. On July 19, 2014 Summer Lake Homes Showcase from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.at Lake Burton and Lake Rabun. The event is sponsored by BB & T, Northeast Georgia Living Magazine and WLHR Radio. On July 19, 2014, Poplar Springs Campground begins. This is the oldest camp meeting in the United States and in our area. People come from many states to attend the two week camp meeting...it is a time to spiritually renew and visit with friends from near and far. The children love the great time at Poplar Springs on Highway 327...they also bring much economic income to our area...visitors buy groceries, gas, spend time at the park and golf...so lets all welcome them as they visit with us over the next two weeks. On Saturday,August 2, 2014 from 8:30 a.m to 11:00 a.m. is the Royston Back to School Bash...a great time...children will receive book bags, school supplies and students and parents can all visit the various booths. The event will be held downtown on Railroad Street in front of the Historic Depot. They are accepting book bags, supplies or donations to purchase these items. The goal for book bags this year is 800...you can drop off your donation or book bag at the Royston Housing Authority between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Royston Main Street is working for you...we received National Main Street Accrediation by completing and maintaining the 10 requirements and Four Point Approach. The Georgia Main Street Program is managed by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. We provide building information, reach out to potential businesses, promote Royston at shows, and state meetings and work closely with our local businesses that we greatly appreciated. This program oversees the events for the community. Thank you to Dills Food City for their expansion and investment in Royston. We appreciate all you do for Royston. Franklin County Rotary Club meets each Tuesday in Royston at 12 Noon in the lower level of the Joe A Adams Building. Come and be a part of an organization that gives back much to the community and reaches out to many. As you vacation this summer...have fun!
