Everything is packed and tomorrow(Sunday) I will be flying to Europe with 19, fourteen year old girls soccer players, going to Denmark to train at FC Nordsjælland (one of the top professional soccer teams in Denmark). After training for a week, site seeing in Copenhagen, touring Frederiksborg Palace in Hillerod Denmark and playing a couple of friendlies we will drive up to Gothenburg Sweden and play in the largest youth soccer tournament in the world. There are 125 team in our Division at the Gothia Cup. We could play teams from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, England, Germany, USA and many other countrys. Roanoke Star Soccer Club will be sending 5 teams over to play this year (2 U15 Girls teams, 2 U16 Boys teams and a U17 Girls team). Our club will be representing the USA in the opening ceremonies for the Gothia Cup on the 14th. We will march in and be on the field during the show. There will be over 50,000 people in attendance and it will be on national TV in Sweden. What a trill this trip is going to be. I get to coach my girls in Denmark and Sweden, plus Kari will be playing on the U17 girls team so I will get to watch my daughter play soccer in Europe. I cant put in words how excited I am to be coaching a team in a tournament in Sweden. I guess I have come a long way since assistant coaching Kims U10 team at North Roanoke Rec Club.
