Everything that has come of 9/11 (torture in my name and yours, - TopicsExpress

Everything that has come of 9/11 (torture in my name and yours, two costly, deadly, and ineffective wars started by hubris more than necessity, Guantanamo Bay and its horrors, military style policing, and a kind of national collective consciousness based in fear) is to me a tragedy. If Osama Bin Laden sought to destroy us, he didnt do nearly as much as we have done to ourselves - as our leaders have done to us. Yes. We lost 3,000 lives in New York and that was a horror. But we have taken so many more and we have lost our way as a nation. We have taken our eyes off of our promise as a people and placed it on destroying the horrors of the world (many of which just seem to grow the longer we work at it since what our government is really after is the imposition of our agenda on unwilling subjects). We have also taken our resources and actions away from building our future as a people. We have redeployed them in the name of war and the protection of profit without conscience. Or perhaps we have opened the door to a real reckoning? It is not as if this dirty history is limited to the space between 9/11 and now. It is just that the Bush administration (and in ways, the Obama administration) marks the moment when that which we held in shadow in the form of dirty wars, corruption, and the like came out into the light and became a part of our national dialogue. I think this could be the moment of true reckoning. But it could also just be the moment when we all get used to the reality that we have lost something wonderful and we have awakened into the nightmare of a government that looks increasingly like a police state and whose interests are no longer aligned with the development of our potential as a nation. I think it might be up to us to decide which will be our reality. We must go beyond protests in the streets and shaking our heads/wringing our hands on social media. We need a new vision for our nation and the will on the part of enough people to join together in a long range march to power. We need to build new coalitions around human potential. Believe it or not, this starts with reclaiming our own potential. We do this by unearthing our passion and reclaiming our power. We do it with the dogged determination to create something aligned with our full expression as human beings. Then we create relationships and communities of shared purpose designed to bring our human potential to fruition. Above all else, we begin to insist on our right to have our greatness and flourishing as individuals and as a nation. None of this is possible without a shift in consciousness and none of it is possible if the shift in consciousness never translates to skillful action. I have written extensively about all of this in my book. Pick up a copy and begin the journey into the blossoming your potential and ours. rebeckaeggers/coming-alive-get-your-copy-today/
