Excellent article. I developed Tourette Syndrome after a lightning strike with I was 6. I wasnt diagnosed until I was 31. It would have helped tremendously to have at least had a label for it - to have some sort of idea of why I did what I did and why I couldnt control it. The lightning strike also brought out the autistic tendencies that flow like water through my family. Unfortunately, rather than just inheriting the geek gene, I usually had no idea what really was going on around me or how to read people at all. Add to that the chronic pain and extreme fatigue, and I was a mess. It took me a long time to love myself. I dont love myself *despite* my physical challenges, but in part because all I have gained from them. I am not Tourette Syndrome or a lightning strike or autism or nerve pain or any of the other things I get to learn from on a daily basis. I am... me.
