Excited about preaching this Sunday morning, October 12, 2014. 1. It is our Seniors Appreciation Day where we show love to our folks age 60+ and they chose me as their speaker. Kool beans. This will be the second time theyve chosen their pastor to bring the Word. Quite an honor. Aaaaaand... 2. Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church elected yours truly as their new pastor on October 12, 2002. I was installed in December 02, but elected at a meeting on 10-12-02. So, to preach & honor the Seniors 12 years to the day I was called to be the pastor of this awesome church is gonna be super dope def sweet. The first coupla years were, whew-oh boy, up & down for me & that demographic. He dont like old people. Thats what the rumor mill & street committee said about me. #NotTrueAtAll But, the past several years with them have been consistently indescribably incredible. They are very caring, funny, fun-loving, hip, flexible, wise, sensitive & tough people with mind-blowing testimonies. Our community would not be the same without them. Our church would not be the same without them. My life would not be the same without them. They make thangs happen in the church and community and they do it decently, in order, and with excellence. Theyre some bad motor scooters. Churches lacking that crowd (over 60 years old) is lacking something critical to developing well-rounded Jesus followers IN MY OPINION, AGAIN, I SAY, IN MY OPINION. (Any outrageous responses to what I just said will be deleted. Youre welcome. I said it was my opinion) If your ministry is evolving as it changes lives & strives to remain relevant it is easy to lose timeless principles and that will cost you severely in the long run. Folks who have been around a while can provide the balance of reaching into the future w/o forsaking the powerful lessons that never expire. They can help you Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us, As were Facing the rising sun of our new day begun Let us march on till victory is won. Sundays gonna be a great day for me & our church. I pray it is a great day for you & your church, too!
