Executive Director Art Museum at the University of Kentucky Lexington, KY The University of Kentucky invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Art Museum. A land-grant institution located in the beautiful Bluegrass Region of central Kentucky, the University is the flagship public research institution within the higher education system of the state. The University consists of 16 academic and professional colleges. A faculty of 2,291 serves the student body of more than 28,000 representing every state in the nation and over 110 countries. Responsibilities: Provides vision, leadership and oversight of the Museum’s artistic, curatorial, educational and programming objectives; Articulates curatorial strategy, educational philosophy and mission clearly for all constituents and stakeholders; Develops and implements policies and procedures for the growth, care, study, publication, exhibition, and accessibility of the permanent collection according to the highest professional standards; Creates and maintains strategies to increase the Museum’s visibility, attendance and program participation; Embraces the evolving role of technology in all aspects of museum practice and promotion; Actively builds collaborative partnerships throughout the University, the city, the region, and the larger museum and art community; Engages partners and volunteer resources to lead the institution into a new phase as the arts become increasingly prominent on campus and throughout the region; Oversees all financial and budgetary functions of the Museum; Works with the College’s Director of Development to create a culture of philanthropy, and engages in the development and implementation of a fundraising plan; should demonstrate knowledge of multiple sources of financial support, including earned and unearned income; Supervises staff in the realization of the Museum’s mission; Demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion as a core value; Job Requirements: MA/MFA or Ph.D. in art, art history, museum studies, or a related discipline preferred; At least five years of experience directly related to the duties stated above, preferably in an AAM-accredited art museum; Demonstrated knowledge of professional museum principles, methods, and practices (standards for accredited museums), and evidence of a network of colleagues in the art museum field are required.
