Experiment: Run 5 miles at my easy aerobic pace without wearing a watch or gps and see how close I can get to my average pace (8:15-8:45/mile). Run: Walked out my front door at 4:02 p.m. Ran 2.5 miles out (knew where this point was) turned around and ran back. Simply ran by feel. Trying to make sure I was running within my easy pace. Even had to stop at a couple of intersections to let drivers figure out who had the right of way. Finished my run and walked inside to see the clock at 4:45 p.m. Results: Distance = 5 miles Time = approx. 43 min. Pace = approx. 8:36/mile Conclusions: 1. Dont be a slave to your gps. It is simply a tool to help you LEARN YOUR PACES! 2. Running by feel can be extremely helpful. Easy one day may not be so easy another day (thats why there is a range). 3. 100% of drivers I encountered had no clue how to manage a busy intersection. All good conclusions to learn from ;-)
