Extremely well made film about an excellent upstanding man who was a mediocre philosopher but a great moralist, a naive statesman but true to the people and kingdom, so ineffective in that role, perhaps he was best in the art of teaching itself, and a rather poor mystic, which is the bane of the most faithful optimist and Idealist. Lao Tzu must have pitied him; he must have known what misery lay in store for this honest man in an evil world who tries to swim with the sharks and change their nature. Confucius is living proof that there is little room for the true man in the dark worlds of diplomacy and governance, especially in times of continual warfare.
