FAMU COACHING CANDIDATE: Corey Fuller Corey Fuller is a Rickards High School graduate and probably one of the most high profile athletes to hail from Tallahassee. He was a standout defensive back for Bobby Bowden at FSU. He played 10 years in the NFL after being drafted in the second round of the 1995 draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He also played time at the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. Fuller returned to Tallahassee as an assistant coach at Rickards High School. He accepted a tough head coaching position at East Gadsden High School and has turned the struggling program into a contender. Known as one of the toughest players in the NFL, he now has grown to one of the most compassionate coaches in the state. The players at East Gadsden have taken to his concept and grown into a winning program. Fuller will assume the duties as cornerbacks coach. This will be the first time in recent history that the defensive backfield will have both a cornerback and a safeties coach. In high school, Fuller excelled at both track and football for three seasons before signing on to play for Bobby Bowden at FSU. He excelled at both football and track at FSU. He was a member of the 1993 FCS national championship football team as well as the 1994 ACC indoor track and field champions. He was part of a long list of two-sport stars for the Seminoles, which included Deion Sanders (baseball,football), Martin Mayhew (football, track), Terrell Buckley (football,track) and Dexter Carter (football,track). While playing in the NFL, Fuller was known as one of the most feared DBs in the league. He was a hard-hitting corner, with exceptional coverage skills because of his speed. He was also know to be as hard-nosed as a linebacker. Fuller played in 152 game as a professional including some time at safety. He collected 590 tackles, 17 interceptions and one touchdown. His highest output came in 2001 with the Cleveland Browns as he collected 85 tackles. As head coach of the Jaguars, Fuller not only improved the record of the Jaguars, but brought the father-figure to the team that helped improve the players in many areas. His departure was not without his reservations about the future success of the young men he had groomed. But, a lifelong dream of officially being a Rattler was an opportunity he could not turn down.
