FAQ: Why do we need to make so many major improvements at this time? Answer: The only way for a school District to make significant facility improvements in Michigan is through a Bond issue. All of the District’s buildings were built in the 1950s and 1960s with some upgrades over time. In the 1990’s, the District identified $8.6 million of needs. The community ultimately approved that Proposal for small additions and minor improvements. This was enough to make improvements such as new classrooms at Fuller and Maplewood; but not enough to address all of the infrastructure needs. The life expectancy of most building systems ranges from 20 to 40 years. Just like your home, there is a time when major improvements must be made to protect your investment. It’s much easier and more cost effective to perform major improvements at one time rather than spread them out into several separate, smaller projects.
