FARB. Its a word with a million different ideas of what it means to each person. Sometimes there is a legitimate reason to call a person a farb, however more often than not its the ignorance of the guy using the word. It will never cease to amaze me how many people get into the hobby and do some basic research in a specific time period and think they know it ALL and what other people are doing. For most people (even re-enactors) they dont realize there is something other than Rev-War, Civil War, or WW2. Civil War seems to be the worst. Most people do not realize that the 19th Century consisted of 95 years that were not Civil War related. I have been called an darned Yankee while doing Spanish American War, I was called a Reb while doing 1820s in the the US Army grey uniform and called a farb because at an 1870s event they claimed there was no such sharpshooters uniform like I wore. It was an 1870 Fenian Brotherhood Jacket (green does not equal sharpshooters). And most recently I saw a comment made on FB by a Civil War re-enactor historian dressing a guy down because his Veteran Reserve Jacket was wrong. He said the trim was supposed to be dark blue. Um, the guy was doing Mexican-American War US Infantry. Moral of the story...be VERY careful when you go around asserting your expertise.
