FAYOSE EMULATES GRASS-ROOT POLITICS FROM KWARA - @BUKOLASARAKI Former Governor of Kwara State, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, reflected further yesterday on the penultimate Saturday’s governorship poll in Ekiti State, saying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Peter Ayodele Fayose, won the election due to the grass-root politics he was armed with from Kwara State. He said there was no way an election could be won by politicians who distance themselves from the people. The Independent National Election Commission declared Fayose as winner of the governorship poll, defeating All Progressives Congress candidate and incumbent Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and Labour Party candidate, Mr Opeyemi Bamidele. Saraki, who spoke at the multi-million naira empowerment scheme organised by a member of the House of Representatives for Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency, Dr Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim, in his Omupo constituency office yesterday, explained that the political structure of the state held sway because of love that exists among the people of the state. He said Kwarans are now politically awaken and it would be difficult for those he referred to as “Abuja-based politicians” to take over the state from the existing platform. Saraki, who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said the paradigm shift of the state ruling political structure to the All Progressives Congress was to engineer the change people have been seeking. He said, “Our people should not be deceived by these Abuja politicians. It is only when election closes by that you see them, after the election, they take to their heels, having been defeated in the poll. “Remember that in 2011 when they came around, we showed them power belongs to the people and the same thing we would be replicating in this coming election. We know how to do it because people of Kwara are now politically awaken. “This is the time for change, and the change has come. Our political structure continued to hold sway due to the love that exists among the people. And I must also tell you that the PDP candidate in the Ekiti governorship election derived the grass-root political tactics from Kwara”. Saraki applauded the initiator of the empowerment scheme for giving back to the people in manifolds and urged other office holders to follow suit. In his address, the initiator of the event, Rafiu Ibrahim enjoined the beneficiaries to use the items given to them to unify the APC at all levels.
