FB POST OF Chibamba Kanyama What kind of voter will you be on 20th January, 2015 (so that you make me happy on the 26th when I celebrate my 50th Birthday)?: 1.RATIONAL VOTER: These are typically commercial and peasant farmers with focused vision and desire to earn decent living. They desire a government that addresses their medium to long term business goals i.e. great policies that support productivity (such as provision of agricultural inputs). This voter is least concerned about tribal affiliation. Farmers and entrepreneurs are very serious about their financial position and they believe this can only be positively affected by the most competent government. 2. AFFILIATION VOTER: These are generally the elite who are moderately comfortable about life; they have a job and will care less about a change in their status quo. What matters for them is the tribe of the presidential candidate who will give them some illusion that they are also in power (when actually not and at times wallow in even deeper poverty than the neighbor of another tribe). Affiliation may also be about one who shares religious beliefs with them. Affiliation can be on grounds of partisanship (I am UNIP, MMD, PF UPND and it does not matter the calibre of the candidate; I will sink with him in the ditch). 3. CHANGE/REVOLUTIONARY VOTER: This is where I belong. Most ambitious people belong here; including students at high learning institutions (the Copperbelt has generally been a change mover in most elections)...are we rebels?. Come to think of it; I have NEVER voted a party in power (unless when I believed the incumbent government had performed exceptionally well). I believe in change, especially when the economy is not performing to my standard. I love risk taking! I have very high expectations of leadership: Deep vision, conceptually dynamic personality, respectable, knowledgeable, focused, INSPIRATIONAL, selfless and committed to deliver. I thought KK and Mwanawasa almost met my expectations. I believe change is always necessary to ensure corruption does not develop roots (please, do not follow my pattern of thinking). 4. RISK-AVERSE VOTER: They seek to maintain the status quo. The government in power should perpetually remain in power for economic prosperity, national security, peace and long life! Our parents voted under the philosophy KK No Change, No Change, No Change! Their principle is, If it arent broken, why fix it? Why try something you have never experienced? 4. OPPORTUNITY SEEKING VOTER: These are currently struggling for a living, unemployed, low income earnings and generally live in high density metropolitan cities; they have experienced enough disease, hunger and they have to daily overcome stench of sewer effluent servicing the affluent when they themselves can only manage a pit latrine that divides one house from another. They seek to use the ballot box to express their passion, anger and usually short-term life aspirations (Prompting candidates to give them short term and unrealistic promises). Their voting pattern is easily discernable because they make the most noise; they even fight among themselves when they do not agree on a candidate. 5.IRRATIONAL/KAPONYA VOTER: These are the new king-makers (replacing the likes of VJ) and for this reason, candidates try very hard to win their approval (and whoever comes out closest to them becomes the most desirable candidate). These have no idea of whats going on but they desire to put someone in State House so that they have more chibuku. They are much more inclined to herd-behaviour/mob psychology voting choices than what they perceive independently. They will mostly go for a loose, carefree ndividual who enjoys the most celebrity-type following than substance. They have no intellectual or mental capacity to assess the intrinsic leadership values in candidates. But when they combine forces with 4 above, they can easily take someone into State House and we will spend another five years wondering WHY....! Good night people; its almost midnight here when I know you are working up to make money
