FB apparently wants to know whats on my mind, so here goes a mini-rant and cautionary tale. I was diagnosed as needing a CPAP (breathing machine while sleeping) about 15 years ago. For a variety of reasons (noisy, uncomfortable) I havent used mine for a few years, which is a Bad Idea if you need one of these. Decided to check with a doc to make sure I still needed one, and a home sleep study said, Yes. So a prescription was written and sent to a local medical supply company. Meanwhile, I did research on machines (and their cost) online. So, today I visited the not-to-be named supplier, and was shocked to encounter rather elevated pricing. They were willing to lease me a decent (but not top-notch) machine that had clearly seen a fair bit of use for $133/month, sell me a matching humidifier for $400, a mask for $300, and various other bits and pieces for several hundred $$ more. The problem is that a brand new such machine lists for $639, the humidifier for $160, the mask for under $100, etc. I discovered that one of the online vendors is actually based in Redmond, called them, drove over, bought the quietest/best unit currently available with much better accessories, and paid under $1000 with tax - about what Id have paid besides the lease (which itself works out to almost $1600/year plus tax!). So, if youre also a CPAP user, you might want to do some research, or message me for info on where to buy. /rant mode off Thank you, FB, for caring about what I think!
