FBR TIMES. KARACHI: Entrepreneurship is very important for the economic growth, said United States Consul General in Karachi Micheal Dodman. He was speaking at a seminar titled ‘Building Pakistan’s Entrepreneurship Ecosystem’ at a hotel here on Friday. The moot was organised by the National Entrepreneurship Working Group (NEW-G) in collaboration with the United States Consul General Karachi, Intel Pakistan and Injaz Pakistan. Business leaders, academics, and government officials gathered to discuss how to build Pakistan’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. The moot was hosted during the Global Entrepreneurship Week, an international initiative celebrating different types of business ventures. Addressing the participants, Dodman said, “Entrepreneurism, particularly the creation of new small and medium sized business, is the driver of economic growth. We have seen the benefits of entrepreneurship in the United States, and are pleased to be able to partner with groups like New-G and others who are working to promote entrepreneurship in Pakistan.” New-G President S Rizwan Razvi told the over 100 business and civil society leaders in attendance, “One of the goals of today’s seminar is to engage all stakeholders in designing strategies for the promotion of entrepreneurship in Pakistan.” Pakistan’s early-stage entrepreneurship ecosystem owes its existence to the efforts of a small but active network of social-sector organisations and academia, and initiatives such as business plan competitions. However, according to experts, the integration of entrepreneurship and innovation with Pakistan’s economic growth strategies will require a national platform and coordination. New-G, a non-profit entity supported by the US Consulate in Karachi as an umbrella organisation of entrepreneurship and innovation support entities in Pakistan, aims to create a platform at the national level to bring about a change in the economic development of Pakistan. Friday’s conference marked the first of many planned New-G events to promote entrepreneurship on a national scale.
