FEATURE OF THE WEEK - Meet Shiloh! Second Chance Sheltie Rescue, Inc, is a 501c3 all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of abandoned and unwanted purebred Shelties. Visit us at sheltie4me or on our Facebook page at facebook/sheltie4me This handsome fellow is Shiloh, a sable and white neutered male. He just turned 8 years old, weighs approximately 19 lbs and is 15 inches at the shoulder. He has a good nature and is a sweet boy! He came into rescue from a backyard breeder, who kept him outdoors and did not spend time socializing him. Shiloh is shy (as in slightly fearful), but is coming around in his foster home. Shiloh is now coming to and taking treats by hand, from both his foster dad and mom. He continues to make almost daily progress, becoming more confident in his surroundings and foster siblings. Shiloh is just starting to show interest in his foster siblings, but has not yet engaged in play. Shiloh now barks on occasion to join in with his foster siblings. He spends most of these hot days indoors, but is becoming more relaxed, as well, outdoors. Generally, he comes when called from the outdoors and is beginning to get the idea about coming when called to venture outdoors (but he is not there yet). Shiloh does not like storms or loud noises. During bad storms he wears a Thundershirt and takes prescribed meds which allows him to survive the ordeal. He will seek comfort when stressed from foster parents, especially his foster mom, whom he follows everywhere throughout the house. He now jumps on the couch next to his foster mom for petting and snuggling. Shiloh also jumps on the bed and takes naps next to his larger foster sister. Shiloh is crated when alone and at night. Crates are open and available to him at all times, but he rarely stays in them for more than a few minutes. He now prefers to be out and around the house. He is now making eye contact, and is okay for handling for brushing and trimming of the hair on his paws. Shiloh requires patience and will need a home that is experienced with shy dogs or someone willing to take a shy dog class with him. His foster parents are pleased and encouraged with his progress to date and expect he will blossom into a wonderful companion dog in the right forever home.
