FEEL GOOD FRIDAY - PROGRESS COMES AFTER STRUGGLE! By Miriam Mukasa Hands up those of you who think that success is only due to good luck? In actual fact, clean success comes from hard work and lots of heavy lifting. Successful people do however, create their own luck by being at the right place at the right time - this is no accident. Successful people are willing to sacrifice today, for a better tomorrow. Even as they stand broke, chasing their dreams (unlike those around them who throw in the towel at the first sign of hard work or trouble), successful people still continue to push and push, despite discouraging comments from others. Successful people just keep going and going and going; they survive where others dont or when others drop out of the race. Successful people do not take rejection personally. They can live on bread and water if it means working towards their dreams. Successful people grow despite all the challenges they face - they dont run away from trouble. Instead, they face and meet challenges head on, as real men/women should. As others drop off around them, successful people keep going, for they know that failure is a crucial and almost always necessary part of the path to success. Meanwhile, weak people not only drop out of the race, they do so and then in a year or so, will be back to take credit for the successful person - they see no irony in their very odd behaviour because for lazy or weak people, success is not about hard work but about using people to get there or taking false credit. Many young people I speak with say they want to start their own businesses and yet if you look at their lifestyles and work ethics, you wonder how this can be possible. You cannot be obsessed about the latest gadgets, fashion, or i-this/i-that, if in fact you are looking or saving for capital to start your business. In addition, if you think that you can only start your business after being handed a lump sum of capital from someone then this too is unrealistic. You have to wake up to the reality that it is highly unlikely that a fairy Godmother will come and offer you capital. So, be realistic and accept that you need to be creative and come up with alternative ways to start your business including starting small or starting with a prototype product first. It is about being resourceful rather than relying on resources. Anyone who thinks they need to be 100% ready before they launch a business is also not being realistic. Better to start small and use this as an opportunity to gauge whether or not consumers are willing to pay for your product than to launch a product which no one is prepared to pay for. So, when it comes to failure or success, take ownership of your destiny. Dont limit yourself to what is possible - aim for the impossible. Dont give up - keep struggling my friend, for the journey is always worth it. Wishing you all a good weekend as you take charge of your own destiny. Best wishes, Miriam Mukasa.
