FEVER AND PAIN My young son had a fever the other day and most parents like us would be overly concerned. But modern medicine explains that a slight fever is our bodys defense mechanism against viral or bacterial attacks. And so is pain. According to Wikipedia, pain motivates the individual to withdraw from damaging situations, to protect a damaged body part while it heals, and to avoid similar experiences in the future. Fever and pain. Unpleasant. Uncomfortable. Unwanted. But they happen to prevent further damage. They are signals, sirens, alarms. Discipline is like fever and pain. No one likes it. But it is crucial in our defense against bad and wrong choices. It is a corrective measure to prevent us from hurting ourselves further. But instead of taking antipyretic or analgesic meds, discipline has to take its course in order to be effective. It may even have to leave a scar. Hebrews 12:11 NLT [11] No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening-its painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Discipline. If symptoms persist, it means youre not learning. Consult Jesus.
