FG/Ogun Collaborate To Improve Cotton Production The Federal Government and Ogun State government in collaboration with experts in agricultural production are set to improve cotton production in the State. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun while receiving delegates from Competitive African Cotton Initiative (COMPACI) and Arewa Cotton in her office in Abeokuta before proceeding to inspect the cotton farm at Ijaka, Yewa North Local Government Area of the State. Represented by the Special Adviser on Agriculture, Mr. Wale Ogunyomade, Mrs. Sokefun said the collaboration was aimed at developing the agricultural sector, especially in cotton production and at the same time improving the living standard of its farmers. “Ogun is the choice destination for agricultural investors and we are willing to partner with genuine investors. We assure you of our commitment to agricultural development and improving the lifestyle of our farmers, while creating a better economic standard for the State,” she said. The Commissioner recalled that increased agricultural development and industrialization was one of the cardinal programmes of the present administration which focused on bringing fulfillment. In his address, the representative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, who is also the Director of Agriculure and Rural Development, Dr. Muyiwa Akinsola said the State can be industrialised through the agricultural sector which could make it a major concentration for foreign aid local investors. Dr. Akinsola added that government had solicited the support of customs officials so that transportation of goods would be made easy due to the State’s proximity to border towns. While inspecting the cotton farm at Ijaka, the Managing Director, Arewa Cotton, Mr. Anibe Achimugu assured the farmers of ready market for their produce and infrastructural development for the town. Dr. Achimugu said he was looking forward to a peaceful and fruitful collaboration with the government and other stakeholders in cotton production. Responding on behalf of other farmers, Mr. Samuel Dosumu said they were grateful for the initiative and sought assistance of the governments and partners in the area of funding and creating portable water for their community.
