FG earmarks N100bn for development of universities Posted by Chris Onyeose The federal government has concluded plans to flag off infrastructuralprojects worth N100bn in various universities across the six geo-political zones next month, so as to give the nation’s universities a new lease of life. This was made known on Saturday in Abuja, by Gabriel Suswam, the governor of Benue State and chairman of the Needs Assessment Implementation Committee of Universities. According to Suswam, N1billion has been earmarked by President Goodluck Jonathan, to kick-off the project. Construction and renovation of structures likelecture theatres, classrooms and hostels are some of the projects to be executed, Suswam said. “The universities that will benefit from the project will be selected by next Tuesday as a subcommittee had earlier been inaugurated to identify where the projects were needed,” he revealed. “Apart from the budgetary money, agencies like TETFund, NITTDA, CBN, among others, also intervene in education. “This is to show federal government’s commitments and readiness to equip our universities with state of the art infrastructure and making them conducive places for learning.”
