FIGGY’S FACEBOOK RANT O’ THE DAY: My buddy Jim Goolsby says it all of the time, Christianity has become Churchianity. This quote made me wince: If you had the opportunity to meet the Queen of England, you wouldn’t show up in at Windsor Castle wearing jeans and a T-shirt,” she says. Shouldn’t people have that same reverential attitude when they show up at church to meet God, some ask? After all, doesn’t your dress reveal the importance you attach to an occasion? If you truly believe that Jesus will Bless you only if you dress a certain way, then by golly I think youve missed the entire point of church. And to go a bit further, if Church is the only place you meet God, then you have a serious problem. Wearing jeans and a t-shirt to church does not disrespect God. Its less about come as you are and should be more about welcome, please fellowship with us. You are no closer to God or Heaven because you wear a monstrosity of a hat or some zoot suit with gators. Do you people honestly believe that upon arriving at the Pearly Gates your admission into Heaven is partially predicated upon what you wore on Sunday mornings? You people get so caught up in the trappings of “Church” that you forget why you’re even there. There are millions of people around the world that get onto bended knees and pray to a God they love and worship. They try to live their lives according to Scriptures in the hope that upon their deaths they will ascend to Heaven. They do so with no concern to what they wear, how they look or what others may think of their appearance. They are pure of heart and only seek to deepen their relationship with God. But most church folk here in America? Beauty salon packed on Saturday so they can look good on Sunday. Buying ‘church clothes’ with money that could be spent getting them out of debt, building personal wealth or GASP!!!! donating to charity. Then having the gall to look askance at the person in jeans who simply wants to fellowship with other Christians, hear the word of God and sing songs of praise. I can rant about this ALL DAY LONG. The hypocrisy of holding on to a tradition that in the end is absolutely meaningless. MEANINGLESS. Reverence stems from the heart and soul, not the fabric draped upon your body. Wasn’t Jesus a homeless, Galilean peasant who wore sandals? Michael Haines you’re right, Jesus wouldn’t recognize His church. Talk about flippin’ tables…
